On my lower jaw, 2nd tooth from back (excluding wisdom teeth), both right and left molars each have a cavity. Cavity is on the outward side. Gum is recessed on both teeth and cavity is below the normal gum line.

Right tooth: dentist wants to do a filling.

Left tooth: Dentist wants to pull, due to X-ray showing an abscess, i.e., infection in the pulp(?). One root shows infection, the others she cannot tell.

I got the news on Tuesday and beginning Wednesday I have been using the following to address the abscess:

- tincture of salvia with water as a mouthwash 4x daily to strengthen gums.
- Hepar Sulph 200C 2x first 12 hours on Wed.; 1x on Thurs; 1x on Fri. and then that will be it. to help pus discharge
Vit. C 12,000 mg. daily. Deal with infection and immune system

My plan: Get the pus out of the cavity and maybe even get the tissue of the cavity in the root to regenerate. ReX-ray left molar and hope no abscess shows and then have cavity filled.

Question: Anyone had a similar situation with abscessed tooth and was able to get the infection out of the root area and then just fill the cavity in the enamel?

I have read about Pyrogen (homeopathic prep.) used in getting pus out of the gums, but the same article recommended other remedies (Hepar Sulph, Merc., etc.) for getting pus out of the root area. Anyone have any experience with using this remedy for abscess tooth?

I chose Hepar Sulp., because tooth was extremely sensitive to cold and gums bled easily; there was no increase in salivation, no pain, only sensitive to pressure when eating something hard. I chose 200C 'cause I was panicked, but then read that lower potencies can cause suppuration (2X) and the higher can abort it.

Any thoughts about potency selection? My tooth is no longer sensitive to cold and since there was very little pain ever associated with it, I hesitate to say that the infection is leaving that area.

Tuesday I have the right tooth (the non-abscessed tooth filled) and they give me to a gum specialist to begin work on the abscessed.

Thoughts regarding my plan, lower vs. higher potency, remedy selection, Vit. C. are most appreciated!!!

Potency selection is an involved process; you would want the minimum dose possible. If you're not a trained homeopath, my impression is that self treatment is not as easy as some of the "do-it-yourself" homeopathy books imply, except for very superficial, non-systemic injuries. You have an internal infection, and an experienced homeopath prescribes on the totality of mental, emotional & physical symptoms, of which the abcsess is one part. I've had a deep abscess on a molar going on two years now, and I'm paying the price of ill-prescription from my previous homeopath. My suggestion is to hang out here, observe how it's done, & solicit the advice of the respected, qualified homeopaths on this BB. One good sign is that you seem to have caught it early, which will make the homeopath's job easier. Don't complicate the picture by self-prescribing if you're not qualified to do so. These remedies are powerful enough to cure, but the corollary is, they can easily cause damage when used incorrectly. You're in good hands here. Good luck.

The 200 has probably sorted it out. I went low with my husband's abcess and 4 days of merc 30 the thing popped and it was gone!! I got the remedy from the type of pain he was getting, BTW Pyrogen I would not say would be at all suitable in this case.

Omitt the Vit. C twelve hours before dental work or it will detoxify the freezing of the dental work too fast or you may require a higher dosage of the drugs. Continue again as soon as dentist is finished. 12 grams Vit C. Are you getting diarrhea from so much Vit. C?? Calcium Ascorbate is usually taken when one takes such high dosages as it is non acid and won't upset your system so much. Careful that it doesn't interfer with the homeopathic remedies.

The vitamin C is an admittedly lose link in the curative picture. I read a transcribed radio program on root canals and cavitations and a listener called in with serious periodontal disease and said that he had self-cured by taking 15,000 mg of Vit. C a day and in three months the "pockets" reduced to a much smaller size and the smaller ones had disappeared. I was in a grim state when putting together my curative plan, so I figured I would start expansively, get feedback from this bulletin board, and get another dentist to look at the X-rays and tooth. At this stage, I feel from the replies that the Vit. C is not critical, and I will decrease, if not eliminate, it all together.

Thanks for the thoughts and others are welcome. So I am beginning to believe that this tooth can be saved and remain with me for future use.

I'm not sure you will be able to avoid a root canal in this case, but I can tell you that once I had a surgical root canal performed and the antibiotics wouldn't stop the infection, no matter how strong, so I did my homework and read in a homeopathic dental book that 6C Pyrogenium would do the job...I took them for about 3-4 days and everything healed up fine...whether you can heal a abscessed tooth I don't know..could try I suppose. Good luck.
