Hi! I am a 37 year old Asian-Indian male residing in the US and am returning to this BB with a third query this year. I hope to get your very useful and kind feedback on this one too. In February I posted an enquiry about acid reflux and based on the advice I got from this BB I took Berberis Vulgaris 1M and have since felt a lot better (A few days ago, I felt some the symptoms return and have take one dose of Berberis Vulgaris 10M). On April 30th I posted an enquiry about testicular pain (see message posted on May 30 titled "Testicular Pain") and took Thuja 30C based on the response I received. The pain has since largely subsided but still appears from time to time.

In the meantime, I went to see my GP about the testicular pain and he felt the left testicle (the primarily painful one) and said everything felt normal except the possibility of a varicoceole (sp?). He also suggested I get a urinanalysis done. The results revealed NO bacterial infection but 11 red blood cells in the urine. Based on this, he recommended I see a urologist. The urologist did not find any abnormality in my testicles (including no varicoceole). He repeated the blood test and said there was no blood in the urine. However, he recommended an IVP (x-ray of kidneys and ureter with dye) and a cystoscopy to view the bladder. The IVP came out normal (except that two regions were not clearly visible) and the cystoscopy is scheduled for a month from now.

Based on my readings on the Internet, I suspect that my problems could be related to prostatitis. Several of the symptoms I am having seem to match up: sometimes slight difficulty urinating, occasional painful urination (rare for me), sometimes need to urinate frequently, testicular pain (in my case restricted largely but not exclusively to the left testicle), blood in urine, sometimes feeling of incomplete bowel movement, occasional bloating and discomfort in the lower abdominal area.

I would very much like to get your diagnosis of my condition. Could it really be prostate-related? I have read that prostate related problems occur at a more advanced age (e.g. 50+). If it is not prostate-related, what could it be? What medicines would be most useful? As background, I had surgery last August (1999) for a cyst on my vocal cord. Since then I have been diagnosed with acid reflux (as I mentioned above). I also seem to have a fungal infection on the head of my penis which flares up from time to time and over the years I have applied Nizoral cream. Recently, I became concerned about the long-term usage of this cream and based on advice from this BB I have stopped using the cream (I had noticed some discoloration around the opening in the penis after cream usage) and have been applying olive oil which has been very beneficial.

Thank you very much in advance for any advice you can provide me. I am a little wary of all the intrusive tests I am being required to undergo and would very much like to try homeopathy instead.

This may require Nit-ac, but wait to see if GM will advise.

Yes Nit-ac is good call Anna, other remedies come to mind, Arg-n, CanthBorax
, nat-mur.cann-s, can you tell us your food habits, do like spicy food or hot food, hot drinks, also when you say frequent urination, is the pain before or after or during urination. and how is the flow of urination, do you feel as if the bladder has not been emptied, still feeling a constant urge to urinate. smarting pain in the urinary opening and aching in the bladder, with a feeling that the urine is retained .or urge to urinate but has to strain (or even stand up and lean forward) to make it pass, A scalding sensation may be felt while the urine flows, with a feeling of straining afterward.

Thank you for your responses!

To provide clarification to your questions, my food habits include some hot, spicy food (once every couple of days), mainly Indian and Chinese (chili hot sauce, etc.). I have only one cup of coffee in the morning (I have tried to cut down on coffee over the last few months) and then no hot beverages during the day.

The pain during urination (which is rare, once every few weeks) is during urination and some lingering after. Not before. I don't have a constant urge to urinate, it's more like the pressure of the urine flow is reduced as if it is coming out at lower pressure. Once in a while I feel like the bladder is not completely empty but this is also once or twice a week. There is no aching of the bladder as far as I can tell.

If you could let me know the exact dosage of the medicines, that would be wonderful. That is, what dosage of Calc c or Lycopodium, how many pills, for how long etc.

Thanks very much! I look forward to your continued advice.

Thank you very much for the specifics of the medicines!

To reiterate, I will take Nux Vomica (1M)one evening (how many tablets? before or after dinner?). Do I take the Selenium (200) ONLY IF the Nux Vomica doesn't work (how many tablets and at what time?)? I will also try to eliminate spicy food from my diet.

I did have some general questions which I would very much like your opinions on...

1. What is the cause of this problem? Is it just the spicy food (I was born and raised in India so spicy food is not new to my diet) or are there other factors that I can control through lifestyle changes?

2. Is this in any way related to the prostate or not at all?

3. Do you recommend I undergo the cystoscopy examination anyway?

Again, thank you so much for you help!

Hello - I just wanted to let you know that as per GM's instructions (thank you!) I took Nux V 1M a week ago and am definitely feeling better though its somewhat difficult to gauge the precise improvement given the sporadic nature of my symptoms. Thanks!!

In the meantime my urologist has detected a small varicocoele (sp?) in my left testicle. Is there an appropriate homeopathic treatment for this condition? Of course, my urologist recommended surgery - I am very averse to that idea...

Thanks again!
