Anna,
That was nicely put. "Some think that the highest form of homeopathic prescribing is hospice, making the transition as peaceful as possible and that few homeopaths ever achieve the knowledge, insight and wisdom to do this well. They acknowledge palliative treatment in this circumstance as a form of healing. To stand in awe as the vital life force responds perfectly, even when the perfect response is a calm death." |

To be a homeopat, it is to to your duty, not to play judge..give help acording to your wisdom..aude sapere, and if lacking wisdom,... lay off, and stay off.
And ANNA, Melanie could not answer, a chamomilla..answer? she could not then ,she was cured, and she can not now.. She was her husbands support..not critciser, esp not after being cured..by chamomilla.. [This message has been edited by GM (edited 20 July 2000).] |

Wow.
Following discussion with interest. Don't know that I have any pearls of wisdom to add except to affirm some of the things said about communication. I worked in mental health for 10 years and have worked with many people in total emotional chaos, including people who have made suicide attempts and self harmed. I now work in dementia care (a terminal illness), again with people in chaos, but for a different reason. Struggling to bring order to their world, lacking the ability to communcate in ways the rest of us can understand. But never lacking the ability to feel.... What I have learned from the people I have walked alongside is to look beyond their words in seeking to communicate with them. Making links between words and behaviours and looking at the timing.., much of this is intuitive. If it isn't broke dont fix it, and even if it seems bizzare to us it may be a tried and trusted way of surviving. We are not walking in another persons shoes, we reall have no idea of what their lives are like. I am left with my conscience and the question what would I want if it were me. Janyce ![]() Not homeopathy, just another perspective. Oh yes, and mothers are all powerful we always know best and have more power than god (or at least more responsibility than god, or whatever supreme being you happen to believe in) ![]() |

Louise
The various introductory homeopath courses all start with a history of homeopathy and of course Hahnemann's history as the main part. The following is from "The British Institute of Homeopathy" Diploma Course. Here is just a little bit. Hahnemann's beloved wife Johanna of nearly fifty years died in 1830. Long history with her and the introducing of homeopathy. All should read about all of this. Very important. "By 1835 Hahnemann had virtualy retired from practice.....and he now spent his days writing, sitting in his garden and receiving the occasional visitor. This period proved to be only the prelude to the final chapter in his life. His new life began with a visit to Kothen by a young Parisienne named Melanie D'Hervilly. Ostensibly she had come to receive homeopathic treatment from the celebrated Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, but after staying in the town for a few months their engagement was announced. They were married quietly in the room of Hahnemann's home in January 1835. To the anguish of Hahnemann's unmarried daughters, Charlotte and Louise, who still lived with their father, the newly married couple, she at the age of about 30 and he at 80 years, left for a new life in Paris. Only three months before on his 80th birthday, Hahnemann was elected an Honorary Member of the North American Academy of Homeopathy in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the first Colledge of Homeopathy to be established in the United States by Dr. Constantine Hering. Within two years of moving to Paris, Hahnamann, driven by Melanie's personality and social ambitions, set up in practice in a spacious mansion at 1 Rue de Milan. His remarkable success with his treatment, coupled with the promotion of his work by Melanie, acting in a public relations role, soon made his practice the most celebrated throughout France, then Europe and then the rest of the world. People from all walks of life flocked to his door, rich and poor alike, and none were turned away. After a short illness Samuel Hahnemann's long life came peacefully to its close in the early hours of 2nd July 1843, in his 89th year.......he was buried in a public grave in Montmartre Cemetery in Paris. In 1898, his remains were exhumed and, amidst much pomp and ceremony, he was reburied in the Pere Lachaise Cenetery. Two years later, through the generosity of the Homeopathic Physician of the US, a 14 foot high granite monument was placed over his grave. Samuel Hahnemann had endured personal tragedy, and had fought against the implacable persecution of the bigoted, prejudiced and reactionary medical establishment for most of his life. He lived to see his fight for medical reform and his gentle, compassionate approach to medicine firmly established..." The homeopaths on this BB follow this example and also give freely of their time and expertise. Not sure about marrying mates 5O years younger than them though! ![]() [This message has been edited by cib (edited 21 July 2000).] |

Oh that is very interesting...no wonder my friend couldn't find his grave in Montmartre, she was in the wrong place. Thanks for telling me,cib. A big granite thing should be easy to spot.. But what is the story about Melanie and chamomilla, please? She probably sought him out for his massive intelligence, but he must have been a groovy dude at 80!
