Phos. is a remedy with many opposite syptoms{according to G. Vithoulkas} and to make sense of this is to start 1st initial symptoms, progressing by stages of symptoms more overtly obvious in later stages until final stages.

n other words, had a person who truthfully had the simillimum of Phos. and had access to a competent homeopath, had symptoms succesfully aborted, then later stages would not come to pass.
