Question

I read that Pat Davis mentioned a relation between alum and aluminum. Are they the same? How are they different?

I thought that I finally found a safe deoderant, Crystal Orchid, but alum is one of the few ingredients. Do I have to throw this one away, too???

Does anyone have a safe deoderant they recommend? I am allergic to most that I have tried from the heath food stores, or they don't work. UGH!

testing. Hi, You can mix the baking soda and water in a fine mist spray bottle. It neutralizes the odor without suppressing perspiration. LindaM.

ALUM = Aluminium Sulphate .....often used by water companies to clarify water supplies

also by producers of some white wines to clear them from cloudiness

JVolkman and Pat Davis: thanks so much for the "safe" deodorant shopping list! I'll throw out the crystal I just paid $5 for, as I looked; it does contain alum.

Pat: I have been meaning to ask you more about aluminum poisoning and symptoms. Is there a thread going on this now?

My mother has Alzheimer's and cooked many years on worn, pitted aluminum cookware almost exclusively. Which means my siblings and I all ate from it from early childhood until leaving for college or marriage. Oh dear.

I have been putting off finding out more about symptoms. Please answer here or direct me to the correct thread. Thanks!

Talking

Hi guys! Glad to see a thread can carry on without its originator. I've had phone line troubles over the weekend. Nice to be back!

THANK YOU SO MUCH, everyone!!!!!! The advice you all gave was very valuable.

About the water... any type of purification process we should steer clear of? My research has led me to believe that spring water is the best (provided the source is not next to a dodgy source).

Pat, or anyone else, feel free to enlighten us with any aluminum information you think we need to know. All I know is that you shouldn't cook with it, baking powder contains it (but they do make an aluminum -free kind), and that its used in deoderants.

THANKS!

Unhappy

Okay...I'm totally confused now....

I STOPPED using regulah anti-perspirants a while back (few months ago!)...and switched to deodourants..then realised that even some of those are no good...so then a lovely exchange took place about the SMELL of my armpits (along with some other bright sprigs on here )...

Then someone suggested Baking Soda (Bicarb)...so, I tried that - along with others...and it works - no odour...even though I still sweat some (not as much as when I was on TUB!!)...but now, I read that even Bakin Soda has Aluminum in it!!???

Is that correct? I read the label on my Tesco Brand and see ONLY Bicarbonate of Soda - !!!! Could there still be some Aluminum in it? Without it being properly labelled??

Do tell...most grateful...
many thanks..Lisa
