My 4 month old baby boy is suffering from reflux. Up to now I have given him Infant Gaviscon prescribed by the doctor. Although this helps a little bit it makes him extremely constipated. I have spoken to a homeopath that gave him Chamomilla 200. I am suppose to give this before every bottle (I recently went from breastmilk to SMA Gold formula) I've now given it to him for 3 days but the reflux seem to be getting worse. He is also very cranky and cries a lot more than usual. He recently started sleeping through the night but for the last two nights he woke up at 4am and keep moaning (not really crying) until 6am when he will falls asleep again for another hour or two. He has also lost his appetite. When doing a quick search on the internet I notice a lot of people mention Chamomilla 30 - not 200. Can someone please explain the difference and why the homeopath would have given 200 and not 30? Also, I found one article that suggested that Chamomilla 200 should only be used once, not before every feed? It is also worth mentioning that he has a mild cold at the moment. Although when he had a really bad cold previously he still fed really well and seemed much happier. Please excuse my ignorance on the subject. I am new to homeopathy and would very much like to find the right remedy instead of going back to conventional medicine. Thanks A_mum |

The first thing you must do is stop the Chamomilla immediately.
The next thing you should do is give the homeopath that prescribed the Chamomilla the information you have posted on this forum. The difference between a 30 and 200 is a little difficult to explain. The 200 has a 'sharper' action than the a 30. It is best suited to acute situations. The 30 is gentler in it's action but may take longer to have the desired effect. Was it a qulaified homeopath that prescribed the Chamomilla?

Hi Similibus
Thank you for your reply. Yes it was a qualified homeopath - bit worrying isn't it. I stopped giving him the Chamomilla yesterday afternoon and last night he slept through the night again and today he was much happier and only got sick once! Thank you for your advice. I guess I better look for a new homeopath... Kind Regards A_Mum |

Hi A_Mum
I am glad he is feeling better. In general you will get the most out of homeopathy by sticking with one homeopath. I did not mean to give the impression that your homeopath had acted incompetently - slight aggravations are common at the beginning of treatment. If your baby was sick only once today it sounds like the medicine is working well - see how he goes over the next few days. I asked if the homeopath was qualified because I could have offered further advice if he or she wasn't a professional. Stick with them - I'm sure you'll be fine. Regards Sim
