Hi Ricky,
I tried doing a search here, as I remember you had suggested a downloadable software to keep the spam and junk mail out of ones inbox, but I could not find it.

Could you post that link again? Have you had any problem with it - like having authentic mail lost, or attatchments lost, etc?
Thanks a million,
doctorleela

Hello Dr. Leela

There is a software (free shareware) known as Mailwasher. I downloaded it two weeks ago but never got to use it as didn't get spare time to configure it yet

You can give it a try. www.mailwasher.net.

I am sure you must have a firewall in your PC (an absolute must), if not, I can recommend one of the best and free, www.kerio.com.

Regards.

Hi Fitness,
thanks for those suggestions, I'll give them a try.

Ricky already has one in place as well, she mentioned some time back. I wonder if she has the same thing.

Its amazing what total junk we're having to deal with in out Inboxes (almost 20-30 messages per day - mostly shady ones!) and almost everyone in Mumbai is facing this problem, with no solution!

When I got here, I had 750 messages to download - that accumulated in 2 weeks... and nearly 20 of them had viruses.
thanks again,
doctorleela

Ricky told us about a software which kills explorer pop ups which does not stop INBOX spam. I think she never told us about that software. However you can give a try to that software which is suggested by dr. fittness. But I would like to recommend you to please open your mail box option and un-check mail address sharing box. You will not receive any spam mail.

Thank you.

I have an idea that the software did include dealing with unsolicited mail as well.

The bigger problem with spam is exposure of kids to unsuitable stuff. The same junk mail is being sent to kids also.

The problem is so severe that on BBC they were interviewing a computer expert few days ago and he said that I was shocked when my 9 year old daughter came and asked me "daddy do I need a bigger penis" without really knowing what it all meant.

I think a relevant question is how can the spam be restricted from reaching kids?

hi Fitness,
Right on the spot!
And thre are other shady ads, as well... But I don't have this problem where I live presently.

I hope they can find some way out of this. Add then these guys will think their way around it again. It seems like the most available market to tap today are children and young teenagers - in any business.
thanks,
doctorleela

Hi,
Running a business, spam can be such a big probem that companies are even changing their e-mail address and deleting the old one. This has happened with Radar here in North America.
Whenever my e-mail address is asked for on the internet I give my spam e-mail address, and not my personal one. Then if I join a club orhave a new contact I change it after I know I won't get spam from them.
So I have a spam e-mail address and my regular e-mail address for which I give it to persons personally.
I do quickly browse through the spam e-mail box on Mon, Wed and Fri days to make sure I don't loose any mail I want. It does take extra time to do this, but it is now just a nesseccary evil to contend with and a part of the business.
Also if you click on the left mouse on the spam mail you will get the properties and can find where the mail comes from. Usually it is an overseas address where there are no laws governing spam. England and Austrailia have big fines for spam coming from their country's now.
I never open an attach if I am not expecting it.
Take care
Carole

Carole
Please give instructions for setting up a spam email address- sounds a good idea!

BTW Ricky is away on a Dr Ramakrishnan weekend - that's the reason she hasn't replied yet!
