In cold climates..people with radiator heat sometimes put a bowl of water on them to get some moisture in the air cause the radiator heat is so drying. Well..the bowl that i use has a crusty layer of something...and i'm wondering if anyone knows if that crud gets inside your body when you drink the water from the tap. I'm not sure how that layer forms there..what the chemical process is...but..anyone know?

It's probably calcium. It's not unusual to have lots of hard minerals in water. As the water evaporates, the minerals will remain behind...and that is the hard crust you're getting.

It often forms inside kettles and coffee makers, too. It's not dangerous. When you drink water, you take in that mineral content and either absorb it, store it, or excrete it (depending on need and capability).

And where would it be stored that it did no harm? If you know.

Fluoride is one of the constituent of water. May be it is in the form of Calcium Fluoride form. Just check the symptoms of Cal.Fluor. & Acid Fluor. Magnesium is another mineral found in hard water( BWV11, study Mag. relation with brain? ).

Just read:

Yes, it is mainly calcium, ... plus a certain amount of dust, I'd expect. And, if it is not too hot, a layer of bacteria and other nice things.

When you drink water, you get a bit of calcium, which you either put to good use or excrete, as somebody already said. Hopefully, you get neither bacteria, nor dust in your drinking water.

Anyhow, a bowl of water on your radiator, is not making any significant difference, so if you don't like the looks of it, just forget it. To significantly change the humidity of even a fair-sized room, you need to evaporate several liters of water per hour.

Bach: Anytime you need to discuss fact, I'm game .
