yikes..I wasn't signed in and lost my message I had written already..
I am sorry if I am not posting in the right place... My daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy 2 years ago...she has had one grand mal..on the day we she was diagnosed. She has been taking Divalproex 250mg 2 tablets twice daily all along. Recently she visited her doctor and he increased them 1 more per day and at the end of this month...he may increase it one more. My daughter used to be happy go lucky...but now she often times says she would be better off dead...and now is so depressed at times from taking so much medication..I am afraid for her when she moves away from home in a couple of years..(she is almsot 17 years old). The first year and a half she suffered from weight gain..which no matter what she did...keeping starchy carbs and refined sugars out of her diet..plus exercising...the weight came on...headaches pretty much every day..and bad ones at that...losing clumps of hair inthe same area of her head....plus she was once energetic and lively and now is rather lifeless at times...and you sometimes have to ask her questions twice before she realizes you are asking her something..it is so sad she was such a bright and quick thinking girl...and she would remember things I would never remember....now she is sooooo completely different. After that time being on the meds...a bit has changed..her hair doesn't fall out like it used to..and the headaches as long as she is watching her carbs...the headaches have lessened....and her weight is back to normal....but the still doesn't react and think like she used to. This is a girl who wants to be a veterinarian....and we are afriad she won't be up to it... She is sensitive to light...and knows to stay away from flickering lights if possible...and knows when she is feeling light headed to get out of certain lights...such as flourescent lighing and such... Everytime she has visited this doctor..he has had nothing good for us to hear...always a bad report...such as there will be no improvement and she will be on meds for life. And she won't get her liscense if she has another seizure. So we have to stick with the meds. I was reading a post in this forum and wasn't going to post till I read this quote from someone else: "Difficult cases take some time to be cured, impossible - a little longer." I fealt I HAD to post and that there is an answer after reading this quote...since her doctor says it is impossible to think she will ever be off meds. Does anyone have any uplifting words for me...any success stories with epilepsy and natural healing....anything! I want my daughter back to the way she used to be..... Desperate mom |
