Hi,

My 6 year old boy has a situation where he clears his throat/coughs nearly 10 times a minute. The situation gets worse when he is talking or excited.

He was diagnosed first with GERD - gastro eosophagal reflux, but Cimetidine does'nt seem to help, even his ENT specialist is not sure.

symptoms: thirsty, restless, complains of being tired, does not like to bend.
Says that something comes in his throat and he is trying to push it down.

He gets up at night around 1-2 am and has a dry cough and asks for water. He also seems to have nasal congestion but no drainage is apparent.

We live in a California valley so he could have allergies.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try Rumex crispus c30, one dose, once only.
Would also give Staphysagria a thougth, as a possible constituional, would need a complete case historie to find out.

Hi GM,

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it if I have the medicine. We have been giving him Belladona 3 times a day for the last two days. Coughing seems to be less during the day but increases in the evening and with talking loudly. Voice gets hoarse when talking and coughing. He has short mild thirst.

His history:

At age 1.5 he had tubes in his ear for persistent ear infections. His adenoids were also removed then. He does not have any ear problems now.

He has a weak eye sight and wears glasses - I do too. He is tall for his age and has a good built. He likes regularity in his daily life and gets upset with change.

His nature is persistent and usually kind hearted. But he also wants to have everything equal or a step better than his younger brother. It is hard for him wait for something. He is also intelligent.

I don't know if these things are relevant, but I have seen similar descriptions in other messages.

Try rumex now, constitutional is probably sulfur> calc carb, or calc phos.

Hi GM,

Thanks for your advice, more details about his symptoms indicate that he has redness in his throat and not only a cough as my message implies.

Also cold air does not increase his cough, but evening onset and talking a lot does.

He is very energetic and active by nature, yet recently he has been complaining of being tired.

His appetite seems to have increased also and he craves for sweets.

your replies are appreciated,

Seema

The keynote of Rumex is that the cough would be worse if he goes into cold air or even changes from one room to another.

What is his energy like?

When I did a repertorisation of most of the symptoms you gave Stannum came up much better than Rumex. However GM is more experienced than me so I might have missd something that his experience saw. Is there any mucus coming up at all and what colour is it?

Yes some days ago his cough would have phelgm but usually it is dry and now he says that when he clears his throat his right ear aches.

Since he is off Cimetidine his situation is worse Belladona 200 did not seem to be right. My father-in-law is a homeopath and he suggests Hepur Sulphur 30.

Thanks,

Seema

Hepar sulf will kill the infetion in the internal ear, thats okay, but later use calcium carb, rumex is only a acute for the cough.

Funny, but I see Silica here. Is he bringing up anything during the day or only in the morning? You say he want everything just one step better than his brother. does he ever rewrite an essay for school because he has thought of more to say? does he make many correction in any draft copy? (Always one step better) Very orderly. can be restless, mousy appearance or like a cricket, always party.
Also Arsenicum, thirst for little and often. great fears, very fastidious, sleeps with pillows in almost upright position. dislike of the cold, the night, restless
Then Rhus tox very thirsty for larrge draughts (this is different) but very restless. But Silica is my first choice, from soem of the things you related.
