Hi, I need help finding a remedy for my son.
He is 9 yrs old with Aspergers. But the biggest area that I have problem with is when he is hurt. If he is frustrated/angry - he withdrawals from touch and wants to lay down on his side and suck his middle two fingers. He can't be consoled and only gets angry if I try. If it's from anger - it's generally for a short period of time (20 minutes). But if it's from disappointment - he can go on for hours. Of wimpering and mumbling. The big question of "why". "why did I do that" or more often "why did you do that?" He doesn't cry loud but wimpers, or sometimes the tears run - but there is no sound. He is also hypersenstive to touch - so if he get hurt physically, he is tactile defensive and immediately yells or cries very loudly, and for a good 5 minutes. But if I'm not around then he hides his pain and won't cry at all (total withdrawals into himself.) He is generally comfortable about expressing his emotions with family. My homeopath is trying to help find a constitutional - but has not been able to find it yet. So I figure this may also be the place to look for suggestions. My son is very elegant in manner. He is very righteous and rigid about what he believes is right. He does not mind standing out about his opinions or beliefs. He can be dirty from sweating and playing and doesn't care, but is very embarrased if he wets his pants during the day. (I think that's the only thing he worries about.) He prefers to wear long clothes - even when it's hot. But hates to wear shoes or socks. He will take them off at every opportunity. He hates his feet to be hot. He has big brown eyes, and sandy brown hair. He is extremely healthy - so there are no physical manifestations of illness. He craves propreoceptive activities - swinging, jumping - needs lots of hugs and compression on his body. But overall is very lethargic. Prefers to lay on his side and watch tv. Worse from sitting or standing. Also I just remember he's a little right sided. He sucks his fingers on his right hand, and also lays more often on his right side. He's tall for his age and slim. Shuffles his feet when he walks. But is very agile when running and playing ball. His shoulders are rounded forward. He has neck pains and fatigues when reading. Has some form of double vision (went though vision therapy for this.) Eats mostly bread and fats. Will eat chicken or beef. Hates juice or fruits. Develops stomach pains from drinking any kind of cold fruit juice. Prefers water or soda. Loves sugar. Avoids any spices or change in flavor. His character: overall he is very compliant in nature - especially to authority. Very affectionate - likes to come up for hugs and kisses. Sits on our lap to be held. Still crawls in bed with us for comfort. Only avoids touch when angry/frustrated. He is hypersensitive to sound - loud noises. Can't concentrate when there is background noise. Hypersenstive to bright lights. Sneezes when he goes outside in the sun. He hates to go outside, though is active when outside and lays down when inside. He still wets the bed at night due to an undersized bladder. He has extremly large stools in the afternoons, dr says it's from retention during the day. His worse time of day is in the afternoons from 4pm to 8pm. If there are any emotional episodes, that when it's likes to occur. Well that's about it. I would appreciate any remedy recommendations. |

There are certain aspects of his character that have been present since birth. Originally he responded well to Chamomillia(sp?)due to he constantly needed to be carried and consoled, and everything else matched well too. (please forgive my spelling on the rememdies, I don't have my book with me.) Then as he grew older he responded to Calc Carb., but not very noticeably. These are on the constitutional level. In looking at him beyond the nature of the Aspergers. He reminds me of person in a flower nature. In the way that he is tall and thin for his age. The elegance in his movements. His face is fair with big brown eyes. Just started to get freckles. He inhereted moles from his father which he developing more of as he grows older. But in his nature - he seems deep rooted like a plant. So much so that he has anxiety when transitioning. (To and from locations.)
So I refrain from informing him about going places until the last minute, then he does better about going. He stands up well to adversity. If boys tease him, he just shrugs it off or walks away - he doesn't take it personally. He does perspire in his sleep - but I need to note when and where on his body. The other thing is that lately I've noticed he does better from being active outside. He stand up tall in the sun and withers (lays down) inside of the house. He wants to be around people though he doesn't know how to relate. So I'm looking at rememdies of flowers that grow in groups and stand up to adversity in their surroundings, and like the sun. So he seems to be deep deep down inside a person who's constitutional is that of a flower. But the effects of the Aspergers appears to be as a person (or flower) that has been poisoned by some organic compound. The withdrawal (or withered) response to being poisoned. The shoulders slumped forward, the hypersentivity to touch, sound, and light. The inability to concentrate when there is external stimuli (like the sounds of lights, kids in a classroom - etc.) The effects of the poison has thrown off his center of gravity to the right. (Even in Occ. Therapy - they noted in a drawing that he made of a boy, that it was leaning to the right.) The way he responds when angry - avoidance of touch, is not characteristic to his nature as a child. It's as if the poison causes tactile defensiveness. In order to get away he jerks away from us. He is explosive verbally about what is bothering him, but for a short time. Then he completely withdrawals internally if he has been significantly hurt (emotionally or physically) to point of being expressionless except for tears and some whimpering. At this point he has been without a constitutional remedy for over a year. The last was the Calc. Carb 200C - which I didn't think it did much. Last night I was reading (again) on Chamomilla as maybe a constitutional remedy, and looking for some type of organic compound remedy to use as a low potency for the poisoned affect of how he responds. I'll read on the Sulpher tonight. Using my homeopath we've only been able to help his health, but I have a deep feeling that homeopathically we can correct his neurological imbalances. At this point I've had it with allopathic neuro-dev pediatricians and psychiatrics with their methods of medicating to "cure" the symptoms. So I'm going back full focused in the homeopathics. I hope my description wasn't too abstract. |

Dear Charski,
Your "explanation" was not too abstract . It is very "COOL"!! I suggest we patiently seek the correct remedy or solution so as to have good results.Good homeopathy must be practiced so as to hold the position in medical science it is truthfully worthy of. But that starts "HERE and NOW" for everyone professing homeopathy as "THEE" way of cure. (1) Does he also avoid salted food? (2) How does he respond to drinking water? What does he like to drink? and HOW (hot, cold, very cold,...etc)? (3) Is he affectionate towards anybody? and display it as such? (4) Any warts? Ever? (5) Does he have a very "CONFIDENT" aura about him self? (6) How does "HE" describe his stomach pains that he gets after drinking cold fruit juice?? (7) Does he chew his nails? (8) Be unbiased with this one. Does he have a tendency to demand things of you? Does he boss you around? (9) How about teasing? [This message has been edited by Johnstanton (edited 26 July 1999).] |

I was hoping that through this group and great minds that with patience we could come up with a more solid remedy for him.
(1) Does he also avoid salted food? -No, but does not prefer them. He prefers sugary foods even if it causes his stomach to pain. (He ate a pop-tart yesterday while with some boys and his stomach hurt afterwards.) Later I saw him open a sugar packet and pour it into his mouth. He does like slim jims, pepperoni, - which is it for spicy foods. He craves foods with dairy even though he's allergic to dairy. So he'll eat salty chips if there is dairy in it. Cheese Doritos' and such. But I don't see him seeking out salt. He'll pass up pretzels or potatoe chips. He seeks out sugar. (2) How does he respond to drinking water? What does he like to drink? and HOW (hot, cold, very cold,...etc)? -He drinks lots of water. Prefers it over fruit drinks (because of stomach pains.) He likes his water cold, but not necessarily over ice. No preference for ice. Avoids hot/warm drinks. Craves soda, but will drink water instead. (3) Is he affectionate towards anybody? and display it as such? - Mother and Father - very affectionate - asks for hugs often, gives hugs and kisses on his own. Other family - will give hugs though not as affectionately. Very competitive with little brother. Will play with him, but eventually will tease little brother into anger or tears. (4) Any warts? Ever? - Yes, only between age 4 and 5. Had them on his hands and fingers. Went away with vitamin therapy. They were clear and round. (5) Does he have a very "CONFIDENT" aura about him self? - Yes, very confident in what he wears. Very confident around family. Very quiet about it around peers - confident but reserved. Will stick to his point of view and argue it out. Sometimes not giving in, even if wrong. (6) How does "HE" describe his stomach pains that he gets after drinking cold fruit juice?? - Sharp pains about an inch below the naval. Sensitive to touch. (7) Does he chew his nails? -No, never has. (8) Be unbiased with this one. Does he have a tendency to demand things of you? Does he boss you around? - Interesting question. It's the opposite in regards to his needs. He rarely asks for anything. I constantly have to ask him what his needs are. (this has always been constant with him.) He doesn't ever boss authority in demanding needs or wants. But he is a perfectionist and will demand something is done a certain way. Very legalistic, very concrete. So if I say he can do something, then need to change my mind - he will pitch a fit and argue that "You said.." or "You promised..." So if I am very routine with him, then there is almost zero arguements or demands. (9) How about teasing? If teased and laughed at, he gets angry and sulks - wants to go lie down, withdrawal and suck his fingers. If teased as an insult. He just walks away and ignores it. He will tell me about incidences at school - but he still considers the person as someone he likes. This is a boy who by the end of second grade made friends of two bullies who teased him. But the teasing was more based in insulting him. If he is laughed at for making a mistake (I think this is part of the perfectionism), then he gets defensive or walks away sulking or crying. |

Dear Charski,
If his desire for sweets is as outstanding as you represent, then the "DESIRE FOR SWEETS " rubric must be used. DESIRES SWEETS: Alf, Am-c, ARG-N, Aur-m-n,Bry, Calc, Calc-f, Calc-s, Carb-v, CHIN, CHININ-S, Cina, Cocain, Elaps, Euphr, Ip, Kali-c, Kali-s, LYC, Mag-m, Med, Meny, Merc, Nat-c, Nit-ac, Phos, Plb, Rheum, Rhus-t, Sabad, Sec, Sep, Sul-ac, SULPH, Thyr, Tub. DESIRES SUGAR: am-c, ARG-N, Calc, carc, Kali-c, Lyc, op, Phos, prot, Sec, sulph. You mentioned ears sweets though it cause him stomach pain. AGGRAVATED BY SWEETS: am-c, Ant-c, ARG-N, ars, aster, bad, bell, calc, calc-f, carb-v, Cham, cina, cycl, ferr, fl-ac, Graph, hep, IGN, ip, lach, Lyc, mand, med, Merc, nat-c, Nat-p, nux-v, ox-ac, phos, Puls, sang, Sel, spig, spong, Sulph, thuj, zinc, zinc-p. AGGRAVATED BY SUGAR: Arg-n, bell, Calc, Merc, nat-p, ox-ac, sang, Sel, SULPH, thuj, zinc. SYMPTOM = "If angry, the......withdaws ,lies down and sucks fingers.." AILMENTS FROM ANGER WITH SILENT GRIEF: Acon.alum, am-m, ars, aur, aur-ar, bell, Bry, cham, Chin, Cocc, Coloc, gels, hyos, IGN, LYC, nat-c, Nat-m, nux-v, Ph-ac, phos, plat, puls, STAPH, verat, zinc. FINGERS IN MOUTH: Calc, calc-p, Cham, IP, kali-p, lyc, nat-m, sil, tarent. When "disappointed...he can go on for hours...... asking (WHY??????)...." AILMENTS FROM DISAPPOINTMENT: alum, AUR,carc, IGN, kali-c, Lach, LYC, Merc,NAT-M,Nux-v, Op, PH-AC, plat, PULS, sep, STAPH, verat. DWELLS ON PAST DISAGREEABLE OCCURRENCES: am-c, Ambr, arg-n, asar, Benz-ac, calc, caust, Cham, Chin, cob-n, Cocc, Con, cop, form, glon, goss, hep, hyos, ign, kali-p, kiss, kreos, lil-t, Lyc, meny, mez, NAT-M, nit-ac, op, phos, Plat, psor, puls, rhus-t,Sep, spong, staph, Sulph, symph, syph, thuj, verat, visc. Correct me if my thinkings are wrong. Here we have a boy whom , as you say ,is "deep rooted like a plant".When he is given time to think over a "transition", then he develops a great anxiety. Thus you wait and tell him just before you go and he has much less anxiety. Next , he handles adversity well. Yet adversity is not a planned occurrence. Therefore; he has no time to build up anxiety. And the fact that he handles it well shows even though new things frighten him (when he has time to dwell) , he still comes out O.K. I suggest 1 dose of "LYCOPODIUM" 1M in morning . No eating 30 minutes before or after taking the dose.No more. Wait. Obtain "LYCOPODIUM" 1M & "LYCOPODIUM" 10M. You may need both at 1 time or another, so you should have them. This is very interesting. I hate to post such long messages here, but I wanted to share with you my observations. I saw 4 strengths in your post. Lyc and Calc being the strongest followed by Sulph and Arg-n.
So I printed up the pages from my MM and started highlighting all the characteristics that match each rememdy. (And marking red on any adverse matches.) Then in Relating the remedies to each other I saw an interesting pattern. First, the strongest match overall was with the Sulpher. He matched in the overall Character description, Mind, Ears, Nose, Mouth, Stomach - esp loss of or excessive appitite. Drinks much, eats little, Milk disagrees, desire sweets, 11:00am needing to eat. Adomen, Rectum, Urine - particularly the sudden call to urinate with great quantity of colorless urine. (a big problem when going places.) He wets at night. Respiratory - brown spots all over chest (I'm not sure if that mean the developing moles which are very brown.) Back, Extremities, Sleep (always wakes up between 2 and 4am to crawl in bed with us.) Skin - which he always has pimply pustules on his cheeks. The Modalities - in particularly the better from lying on right side, from drawing up affected limbs. But in each category there were a minimum of three or more matches. Except in Head, Eyes, Throat, Male - there were none. The second was Calc. Carb - not as profound as Sulpher. But in Mind there was almost and exact match. The within each catagory there were a minimum of 2 matches each. Except for Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Face. But there were some key areas that struck me. Ears - perversion of hearing, hardness of hearing. Mind, Head - worse from mental exersion. Throat - had tonsils and adnoids removed do to excessive swelling. Stomach - craving for sweets, milk disagrees, loud belching (constant problem.) The stomach matches almost exactly. Stool - large and hard. Urine - Abundant. Back - Pain between Shoulder-blades. Nape of neck stiff and rigid. Modalities - worse from exertion, metnal and physical. The third was Lyco. Where as the digestive disturbances and mild temperment, earthy complexion, right sidedness, worse from 4-8. Intellectually keen, but of weak muscular power. Sensitive to noise and odor. The mind was again the strongest match - and especially in regards to confused thoughts, spell or writes wrong words and syllables. Can not read what he writes. - This is where I see the affects of the Asperger. Beyond that only a few matches on the other catagories. Eyes - day - blindness. Ears - deafness Nose - sense of small very acute Throat - food and drink regurgitates through nose. (Big problem since adnoids removed.) Stomach - Aversion for Sweet things. The forth Arg-n I'm not going to mention for reasons I'll explain in a minutes. I feel that I was reversed in my orginal concept that he was a plant by constitutional which was being inhibited by some organic compound. What I see that is that he is of an organic compound, inhibited by a plant matter. In comparing complementary relationships, antidotes and compares: What I noticed is that both Lyc and Calc work best after Sulpher. That Lyc acts as a special benefit after Calc and Sulpher. That Arg-N has no relationship to the three, and the matches weren't very clear cut as the others. So what I feel that would work best is to Start with Sulpher, follow with Calc Car, then finish with Lyc. At this point I'm not sure of potency or duration. Whether doing 200C - maybe one each over the next three months. Or if the Lyc might be best as a low dose as the symptoms are of the illness nature, but the Sulpher is of the consitutional nature. Please let me know what you think. |

Dear Charski,
In my thinkings ; I seek to find what individualizes a person reguardless of the particular ailment. "MENTAL" characteristics are VERY important , when they are good solid symptoms. As are "DESIRES" , "AVERSIONS", "GENERALITIES", "PECULARITIES", and good "CONCOMITANTS". GOOD SOLID CHARACTERISTICS that we can intelligently base our prescription on. One can easily lose the thread to finding the "REMEDY" by smothering themselves with details ; which many remedies also have as part of their symptomology. We must individualize each case. And prescribe according to what is inhibiting this person from their personal "EVOLVEMENT". Charski, you will see many remedy pictures in one individual ; But only 1 will best cover it for "NOW". We must be "FLEXIBLE" and prescribe as the situation demands. And the demands are the "CHARACTERISTICS" of the Dis-ease. GIVE only 1 remedy (NO REMEDY ROTATION) , wait, and "SEE". You choose. Your son is healthy. What ever you give you can go high (1M , 10M,...etc).Take responsability for your decision. Be it right or wrong; don't guess. So after giving the remedy you can intelligently access the situation. I still suggest "LYCOPODIUM" 1M. If you would like to take the time and truly elicit which remedy best fits, then I am willing. Between (ARG-N, CALC, LYC, SULPH) [This message has been edited by Johnstanton (edited 27 July 1999).] [This message has been edited by Johnstanton (edited 27 July 1999).] |

Good advice. What I'll do is muscle test. That has always been my best re-assurance for finding the remedy that works. As with my six year old, I was reading on a thread on behavior problems with a little boy that was identical to my son. On the thread they mentioned Agaricus Muscarius. So I went to my homeopathy and she saw the remedy Hyoscyamus. So what I did was buy high and low potency of both. After muscle testing, he showed strength with the 200C Agaricus. Then the next day, after muscle testing, I followed with one dose of 30C Hyoscyamus. The difference in his behavior was like night and day. Again re-affirming my belief in Homeopathy. So that is why I'm aggressively pursuing the condition that my son is in with Homeopathics. At this time I have most of the remedies for him except for the Lyc. I'll stop by the homeopathic pharmacy tonight and pick up both a high and low potency and will start testing him. At this point I am greatful for your help and the direction you have provided in finding the remedies. I'll post in a couple of days what happens.
