Lumpy udder/ mastitis
Hi,
I breed Anglo nubian goats and i have two 3yr old does that have developed lumps in their udders. One of the goats is only on her first lactation the other one her second. The first lactation doe only has one lump the size of marble that has stayed unchanged for the last 2 months, it feels like an abcess deep in the tissue.
The second lactation doe started developing lumps about a week after kidding. and have been getting worse, the lumps are in thier left half. no change in milk appearance, the does are eating and look fine.
The vets don't know much about goats and it has only been because of my constant pushing that are going to do a milk culture.
They believe its nothing to worry about.
But i also noticed they have a hard mass on thier left side also making thier udders look lop sided.
I disagree and do not think this is normal.
sometimes in the morning the second lactation doe's left side is extremely hard and takes all day to go back down in size, although it always looks lop sided. This only developed about 1-2 weeks after kidding.
If there is anything you can think of that would help, i would greatly appreciate it, as i am at my wits end.
I did speak to a naturopath and was given a mixture of solution called IMST
although it has been 5 days and there has been no change. i was told i would see a change in 3 days.
The dosage she gave me was one spray 3x daily. Although goats have a very fast metobolism and 4 stomachs. i know with other medication we have to triple the human dose for the same effect. so i'm not sure if what i have been giving is enough.
thanks for your time
look forward to hearing from you
