First, I want to say bless you and your mother for giving this little guy a good life in a loving home!

We recently adopted Gidget, a female stray kitty, who is also about 1 year old. She too was starving when she came to us, and she was also seen by a vet and given treatment similar to that your mom's little boy kitty received.

Gidget is also an exessive eater, and we believe this is because she was so starving when she came to us. She was skinny as a rail, and so full of worms that everyone (vets included) thought she was pregnant because of the way her belly felt.

We have treated Gidget's appetite by trying to be as understanding as possible. She is coming around slowly but surely, and she seems to finally understand that if the dish is empty, it won't be like that forever, and we will not let her starve.
