Alternating would be possible because they follow each other well and are not (=don`t behave) inimical to one another.
But usually only one of them is given. To put it simply, you could say that Gunpowder is used in more serious (septic) conditions or if Hepar sulph. doesn`t/can`t solve the problem even though it was indicated in the first place. Also very useful for shelter animals with neglected wounds, cuts, etc. That`s why Gunpowder is good to bear in mind.
