Well, I was completely surprised that he even suffered from tinnitus--like I said, he kept it secret from me. I gave him the mag phos because he was, at that moment when he was in pain, suffering from an acute muscular spasm. As far as I knew at the time, he was having a very painful charleyhorse, and I had mag-phos, a remedy for muscle spasm handy, so I gave it.
He has always run his own business, and many of his clients were and are doctors and specialists who he's turned to--quietly--for help over the years. I worked in the family business for a long time when I was growing up, and met many of these doctors. Of course, many were friends of the family and never ever let on that they had treated or advised my father about anything. It wasn't until some time after I gave my father the mag phos for his charleyhorse that he told me he suffered from tinnitus, and had sought out all kinds of specialists to try to cure it.
However: if I were to look over the symptomatology I am aware of in his case, he does have many ailments that would befall someone who needs a remedy with phosphorus somewhere in its make-up. Either a plant remedy, or a mineral compound remedy featuring phosphorus, such as calc-phos, mag-phos, phosphoric acid, something like that. But I do not know his entire picture: and I know he has done well with remedies given for mental/emotional symptoms which became overwhelmingly troublesome. One such remedy he did beautifully with is lycopodium. Like Mag Phos, that plant has a chemical make-up with the ability of spontaneous combustibility--magnesium and phosphorus both have this "explosive" tendency, as does the lycopodium spore from which the lycopodium remedy is made. He has done very well with this remedy in the past. I should ask him if he still suffers from tinnitus, as the lycopodium remedy does, in fact, address many of his symptoms, including the cancer heralded by the vertigo I mentioned above.
Anyway, just a little story to use as an example. No need to be sorry: some people really do make decisions about their health based on their fears--it is a human tendency. I believe one of my father's "touchy points" is realising that he must rely on others to help him: his anger and his irritation are increased significantly any time anyone has to step in to help him do something he really feels he should be able to do himself. It is intensified if this realisation makes him aware of the fact that he is no longer capable of doing those things for himself. So he will make decisions based on that fearful reality. It's sad to see this in people. But there you are.
