Oour province, about 5 years ago, initiated a big push to vaccinate as many people as possible with the flu vaccine. Its very problematic, its free, clearly the pharmaceutical companies involved are making a nice profit from the big promotion, but no one is staying well. The flu rages as usual, and the vaccine has actually caused at least 1000 complications in itself every year its been given. Yet, every November, the TV and radio commericials start, the newspaper ads and supporting "articles on health" bombard us, and clearly homeopaths have their hands full trying to educate people about how to avoid getting sick with the flu and avoid getting the flu vaccines altogether. (I'm also not the only one to see a nice little connection between our provinces' big ad campaign to push the vaccines on people and this years big pneumonia mutation, SARS, which has only been seen to occur in Toronto and other more populated areas of Ontario, while the rest of Canada has seen very few cases).

This is where Oscillococcinum has been a godsend for me.

It is very true that the similimum which would best suit the case is ALWAYS the best remedy to give, but if you can educate your patients to take the Oscillococcinum BEFORE they even begin the prodromal stage of the flu--that is, when they get that small little feeling that tells them they feel like they are coming down with something--it will work beautifully. If it only does "part" of the trick, then I tell them to give me a call--and I can prescribe on the remaining symptoms to get them all cleared up in no time. If they feel like they have this option, they will gladly avoid the vaccination programs!

Giving the patient the option of avoiding the vaccination and "arming" them with the Oscillococcinum for use when they feel it is necessary has allowed me to keep many of my patients away from the vaccines--AND remain flu free!

If it is taken at the right time it does work very impressively, usually in way that most of my patients have never experienced before with the usual "flu" meds, like tylenol or some kind of neo-citran product. The "miraculous" results convince them that they made the right decision to avoid vaccines, and they feel much healthier and live much more healthily than others who buy into the whole vaccine push every year.

So, I have an approach I bring out every year: if my patients are interested in something like this for the flu and they ask me about the vaccinations, I always tell them about the oscillococcinum. They can make their own decisions--but many do like to tell me how successfully the oscillo worked for them when they needed it. It has become an excellent tool for promoting homeopathy over conventional medicine--its accessible to everyone, not very expensive, and extremely effective when properly used.
