It's only effective if taken before there are any defining symptoms. If you read the double blind studies that were done, you'll see that what it does is shorten the duration by about 40% and decrease the severity of symptoms. The similimum can actually cure the acute in a very short time. However, if you don't know enough to get the correct similimum, then Occi will help more than doing nothing, but it does need to be taken at the very first onset. If taken early enough, it can abort the process, but only if taken very, very early on.
