Hi,

The key for colocynthis in hip pain would be if the pain aggs when rotating the leg inward.

Other remedies to consider might be: arn, bell (rapid onset, pain more right than left), bry (refuse to budge), calc (limbs may feel cold/damp, flabby type), calc phos (thin/spindly), colch (touch may cause cry of pain, may have stomach distress), puls (worse with heat), ruta, sabina or sil. Rhus (chilly, restless) walks/moves out of pain (difficulty rising), ruta rises easier but pain agg by movement.

A friend of a friend wrote me a while back regarding his dog with hip dysplasia. They saw really good results, very quickly, with low potency Ruta (6X) repeated 3 x daily (this was dry dosing because they had no idea how to use liquid potencies, had never heard of homeopathy before), adjusting that dose as needed and only using it for one week as a test. They also used a 6X tissue salt (not in potency) daily, not at the same time. They were ecstatic with the changes, delighted their pal could once again do the things she had always done before. I then sent them to a real homeopath to continue treatment and have not heard back.

Hoppitt's suggestion sounds on target (as may have been Rhus) but I would have no idea at what potency or freqency, both of which I think are very important considerations. The right remedy in the wrong potency/frequency may not yield the desired results, making one feel it was the wrong remedy. Much good luck to your friend's friend. (Keep in mind, I am neither a homeopath nor a vet and have very little knowledge.....just sending my thoughts along.)
