When it is said that when a medicine x antidotes another medicine y, the former takes away the effects (not just the side-effects) of the latter; that the former un-does what the latter has done.

This being the case --- if it is the case --- how can a remedy both anti-dote and complement another remedy?

I invite fellow members to spare some time and explain this point to me.
