Folks, I am relatively recent convert to Homeopathy. My wife's family have a long association in practicing it and my (recent limited education) is due to them and this web site.
I know the topic of hypothyroidism has been discussed several times here before but I don't recall reading any success stories so far, and I wanted to present my case in the hope that some of you can help me out. I have been diagonized with hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's) about 5 years ago by my primary care physician during a routine visit and was been precribed to take Levoxyl as a thyroid suppelment. Symptoms which they normally associate with this conditions like fatigue, weight gain, dry skin etc., were not at all obvious to me at that time. However, as time went by, my PCP kept increasing my dosage (from .75mcg to 2.0 mcg in 4 years) as the TSH values were not in the accepatable range to him. Also, the aforementioned symptoms were increasingly obvious to me during this period.
About 2 years ago something new started. I started getting an excrutiating pain in my left eye which is preceded by a burning sensation and redness. It normally would happen by end of day and I kinda guessed that it may be because of working on the computer all day. Several visits to the eye specialist led to nothing other than he putting a silicone plug to help dry eyes (as he guessed that might be causing the pain). Interestingly, the pain was experienced in the fall and winter seasons (september through april). The intensity was progressively worse as well. Last April, my new PCP diaognized it as a "cluster headache". He confirmed it by administering me with pure oxygen for 15 minutes. O2 is supposed to help these types of headaches and it sure did. But cluster headaches are cyclical in nature and sure enough I had them back.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...cle/000786.htm has more about it.
I am not sure what the link between these painful headaches and the hypothyroid medications is but I have read of experiences of other folks who are in a similar situation after taking levoxyl or other similar drug. I am really hoping that homeopathy can help me with both these conditions. My gut feeling is that the cluster headache is an off shoot of excess medication.
I am working with a homeopath for the last year or so on this. I am hoping you can give us a fresh perspective. I took KC (200), Carb-v (200, 1M, 10M) during this time. KC helped to some extent (better sleep, less mucous etc) but my homeopath narrowed it to Carb-v to be my closest remedy. Since 200C helped (not necessarily with the lab values) I took 1M but that did not help. I was told that it may have interfered with the 200 potency which may have been working (in the interim 60 days or so). So, I was prescribed 10M and I took it 2 weeks back with no apparent reaction. It doesn't seem to be helping either. I did not develop any new symptoms after taking KC or CV.
here are some of the symptoms you might be interested:
1) don't feel refreshed in the morning after sleeping through the night. feels like I did not complete my sleep.
2) The headaches are either triggered in the night or on waking up (mostly during winter). Cluster headaches start with left eye and then to right eye. Feel dryness in the throat when having a cluster headache.
3) I don't take colds very well (living in Massachusetts!). constant nose drip (left side only) during cold weather. need to clear throat in the morning. bothersome flem.
4) Knee pain (left only)
5) a peculiar noise in the stomach when I drink fluids (like water running through pipes). Got corrected after taking KC.
6) More recently, developed a tendency to eat something sweet after a meal
7) drynees of skin
8) normally I have an excellent memory for names, places etc. But when I am not taking medication for hypothyroid, I have difficulty choosing the right word or recalling a name.
I hope this gives you enough to comment on my case and point me in the right direction. Sorry, it turned out to be a longer post than I had anticipated. I will be happy to provide more information as you need it. Thanks!
