Hi Anna,
The cat is finished the antibiotics, so right now he's not on anything. I have started his food change (easy -he loves to eat "right"). I spoke with the vet again today to let her know that I can not see any visable trace of the original ulcers (she doesn't believe me), certainly the one on the roof of the mouth is gone! I checked the tongue a 2nd time, still couldn't find anything, however just to be safe I'll get someone else to check it as well.
His body sores have pretty much healed since his surgery (when we took tissue for biopsy). The cat is active, eating well, urine & BM normal (he thinks it fun to live at my zoo!)
I spoke with a tech at the vet hospital, she urged me to look again because she saw 1st hand how deep and destructive this ulcer was to the tongue.
The mouth ulcers came up directly after giving merc 30c and did not improve from 200c. Not sure why phos was prescribed? The cat seemed a little "off" mentally while on merc 200c, but perhaps LMs would have been the way to go.
As I mentioned, there is a big push to start him on mega doses of prednisone, although I'm not sure why, given he is not currently showing lesions? But don't worry about that, I wouldn't combine treatments.
I guess the main concern is that the lesion will re-grow and potencially the damage to the tongue could turn into a "must amputate" condition.
Let me check out the tongue again and compile a proper symptom list. I would be very grateful to anyone for help.
PS: Going back over his case, I noticed that prior to his placement with us, the previous owner had given prednisone and depomedral in treatment to his then undiagnosed body sores and gingivitus. The steriods didn't help him back then. The gingivitus was cured with merc 30c.
