I also have HepC, diagnosed in 1996. I have been treated with allopathic Interferon/combo therapy, acupuncture, chinese herbs, vitamins, herbs and homeopathy. Sadly, none have cured me, but I believe my quality of life is good and hope to prevent or prolong the time to liver transplant. In my situation, I will repeat any of the above, except the Interferon/combo therapy. But that is just my choice, not a recommendation. Currently, I take a regimen of vitamins prescribed by an MD/nutritionist, and Cean, suggested by a Homeopath on this board.
Hep C is a serious disease, and possibly life shortening. I recommend that you find an MD experienced in nutrition/vitamin therapies, and a homeopath to consult. Diet and treatment are important components to a successful cure or 'fight' with the disease. The board is very helpful, but suggest you find someone to treat you locally, and experienced in HepC if at all possible.
As for the ALT of 97 or liver function tests, in my experience it is not a reliable factor in tracking the disease. I have had readings in the 300s and in the 70s since diagnosis. They can vary dramatically from blood test to blood test. Albumin is a better indicator of how your liver is functioning according to my MD. I also have low platelets, 40s, which indicates liver damage and a swollen spleen as a result. Since the disease generally progresses very slowly, I sugggest you track blood test results in some organized manner for comparison. If you change MDs over time it will valuable to them as well.
Good luck. Keep your life low stress and positive. While it is a serious disease, I have found there are many much worse.
