I think if the patient wants to know what is being prescribed, this information should be readily supplied.
There should be no opportunity for dishonesty to transpire between patient and doctor. A situation where the patient is made to "do as he or she is told" makes for a situation where the patient can feel as though the doctor is not worthy of his or her trust. I believe that keeping the prescription a secret from the patient happens to be more about the doctor's insecurity than it is about the patient's well-being.
