Just a quick last update for those that have been interested so far:

Thank you once more for everybody's input during this crisis. It has been much appreciated. It turned out to be nearly impossible to get my mother to take in any kind of medication whatsoever. She quickly came to a point where even the slightest amount of water would start violent spasms of vomiting. Mostly "dry-spasms" with nothing more than a teaspoon or three of clear liquid.

In the intensive care unit, doctors became greatly alarmed when her kidneys, liver and lung capillaries began clogging with dead red blood cells. This also helped to cause water to build in the lungs. The lung condition, in particular, was very serious and could very easily have caused her death if any infection or bleeding had had to occur at all. Then, as the last three day's quinine treatment was begun, her entire condition started turning around within a period of six hours. This has been amazing and difficult to explain. She also reacted with VASTLY less severe side-effects from the quinine. Again, inexplicable. The nausea subsided greatly. All conditions improved dramatically and within 24 hours she was out of danger. Within two more days she was discharged and is now making exceptionally good progress, although full recovery is said to take at least five weeks.

The lesson for me was that a patient should start taking homeopathic treatment before heavy quinine doses are administered. If left until too late, it seems that the nausea problem becomes so great that nothing can be administered orally to alleviate both symptoms and treat the disease itself. Not even the tiniest pills are tolerated! What I'm wondering now, is whether there exists any kind of a homeopathic "first aid kit" remedy which can be used at the earliest signs of malaria? This could be important advice in malaria-stricken areas! In South Africa, it is difficult to get hold of homeopathic remedies in time and there still exists a certain measure of distrust between conventional doctors and homeopaths. It seems that people living in malaria-risk areas should stock up in advance and be ready. Perhaps Bala might face similar circumstances in India?

I have just read Ben Rozendal's posting saying that malaria immunity is possible for life. I'd like to know how that would come about with these two drugs -- i.e. do they lead to the production of antibodies? This is very interesting! I've heard there currently is promising research done on develoing a vaccine, but nothing final(!)

Kindest personal thanks once more!
