Rajan,
Calcarea isn't in the rubric: Throat, pain, extending to, ear, swallowing, on. In fact, I did a repertorization on your son's cold, and calc. didn't come up at all--at least, not anywhere near the top.
Here's what I repertorized, and if you think I should use other symptoms, let me know:
1. Pain, throat, extending to, ear, swallowing, on
2. Swallowing difficult
3. Throat, pain, warm drinks ameliorate
4. Mucus in throat
5. Mucus, greenish
6. Sides, left to right
The one remedy that covered all these symptoms was Nux Vomica. The trouble with Lachesis is that it is not better for warm drinks.
The "Expert System" in my repertory program says
Argent-Nit. is number 1, eventhough it doesn't cover all the symptoms. So, that would be my second choice to try.
Maybe the homeopath thought your son was a "Calc Carb" constitutionally, and prescribed it for that reason, thinking that no matter what the illness, give the constitutional remedy. Some homeopaths believe in this philosophy and others believe you have to prescribe on the presenting symptoms. I don't even know if your son is a calc carb. If he is, there might be some merit to trying it.
The "Varic", I believe, is "Vario"--short for Variolinum, the small pox nosode. It is for ailments since vaccines. Clearly, the homeopath thinks this is the cause of your son's sore throat. I don't agree. I think your son caught a sore throat from school. An etiology has to be strong and clear to be used as a basis for prescription. The etiology of vaccination is not strong and clear in this situation, it is supposition.
The liver support things....I don't know....I have never had to resort to that kind of prescribing, and then you don't know what's working or what's aggravating cuz you're taking so many remedies at once.
So, I would give Nux vomica 30C three or 4 times a day for 2 days, and let us know....
Also, Dr. Robinson, I believe, charges $150.00 to see children, so if you can take advantage of that....
Good luck,
Snoopy
