Hi MA,
Thanks for the information. It may be time to just follow-up the case and give the appropriate constitutional (perhaps psoric) remedy now, since the acute remedy worked so well. It sounds like there was a kind of minute epidemic of typhoid where you are, so Genus epidemicus prescribing (which is essentially what you've done here, with the Bapt.) is the appropriate type of prescribing to use in such a case.
Baptisia IS a good remedy for typhoid, a disease which is not as prevalent as it once was here in NA, but persists in many other places in the world. I think it may be possible that the aconitum and the belladonna aided the body in bringing down the fever, but ultimately the baptisia did the trick. It does help to know he was exposed to typhoid via his elder brother: I found this notation in Boericke's mm under "baptisia":
Baptisia in low dilutions produces a form of anti-bodies to the bac. typhosus, viz, the agglutinins. This raises the natural bodily resistance to the invasion of the bacillary intoxication, which produces the typhoid syndrome. (a suitable remedy for) Typhoid carriers.
So it is very possible this was the most appropriate acute remedy.
Incidentally, did you use homeopathy for his brother, too? If so, what was given? I'm very interested to know. Boericke lists Nitric acid, terebinthum, crotalus h., hamamelis, and pyrogenum as good remedies to follow the baptisia--a follow up may just point to one of these remedies to restore full health.
