Subject: History I
In July '99, I was experiencing severe mid back pain and numbness in my
right foot. After an MRI, I was diagnosed with spinal glioma. On July 22,
1999 I had surgery. My post-op conditions were and are weakness in both
legs (one weaker than the other), a kind of numbness sensation in my left
foot, loss of a sense of proprioception, weakness in right knee. After 4
months of physical therapy, I started experiencing lower left back pain
, which was later diagnosed as a problem in my SI joint. I started walking at
a pretty slow rate using my cane. Six weeks ago, things started to
deteriorate. I started getting weaker, and I wasn't able to walk as much as
I was four months ago. At the present time, I am experiencing stiffness in
my thigh muscles, front and back and on both sides. I'm also experiencing
much more weakness in my hips, thus not letting me bring my legs all the way
through to the front while I am walking. I'm also experiencing cloness in
my feet. Although my back pain is getting better, my weakness is getting
worse.
CURRENT SITUATION:
I had a surgically removed tumor from around my spinal cord thoracic levels two through 8 followed by radiation and chemo. After rehab I was walking with help of a cane my balance was reasonably good had back pain, which was slowly getting better. In the last four to six weeks, my walk slowly started to deteriorate. My foot started to swing while walking and I slowly started to loose my balance, as a result I fell on the floor few times. In last ten days my condition has been very rapidly deteriorating to the extent that I
can hardly lift or move my legs. Both of my sets of quads and hamstrings are tightening making it hard for me to bend my knees. Due to this, I am also losing some of my strength and balance thus making it hard to stand. Within the last week I had an MRI of the region I had the surgery and also lower part of spinal area (lumbar area) the results were negative. I thought that maybe the tumor grew back and causing some kind of pressure on the nerves but luckily that is not the case. We feel that the problem now is that my nerve signals to and back from brain to legs are for some reason being interrupted at or around the area I had the surgery. So far nothing has been found. What I needs is a
healing of that problem which I am positive is available somewhere. In the meanwhile investigation is ongoing over here. I am going in for a mylograph on January 28, 2001. If there is anyone that may have some kind of answer, help, direction that they may lead me to, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for help and effort.
