Sarah, Conventional medicine treats this condition with cortisteroid cream (which in the US is available OTC in 5 and 10%) and in bad cases, with oral steroids. Oral steroids don't usually cause major side effects when given for only a week or two. Topical steroids don't usually do alot of good, but I have seen it make very good improvements too in some cases of contact dermatitus. I would be concerned if they were prescribed for long term use. Yes, they can supress, but used for a short term??? IMO, once the rash has subsided, apply Calendula. For a child this young, I would dilute it 3 parts water, applied with a cotton puff several times a day. Also, What is the child sleeping on for bedding? Pure cotton or synthetic blend? Wash detergents or dryer sheets to eliminate static and freshen the clothes? Many hospitals use disposal napkins under the baby's face (to facilitate cleaning up) Was this child's face irritated when you brought her home?
